Hi PowerCadd Power users! I am operating PowerCadd on a G-4 with 1GB of Ram, 933MHz processor, and an 80GB harddrive and I get frequent low memory messages and am unable to open or work on large files.
I have the memory requirements, for PowerCadd, set to 50,000K (preferred) and 4,096K (minimum). Most of the files that I need to open are between 30 and 100mb.
Are my memory settings too low or is there some other explanation for the low memory errors? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Also, what is the mathmatical relationship between gigabite, megabite, and kilobite? Thank you for your help.
Phil Loheed brings clarity (for now)
SInce PowerCADD does not use vitual memory or "scratch" files, it must have sufficient RAM for the program itself, the files that are open, and "working space" for UNDO's, etc. I suggest assigning about two times the sum of files you intend to open as a starting point since you have plenty of memory available.
In the example you give this would be about 130MB of files x 2 = 260MB -- say 250MB or so...
When memory is tight, try total of files + about 60-70 MB, and reduce the number of UNDO's.
(BTW, when you go to OSX, the memory is dynamically allocated by the system as required, and all this becomes mute...)
